29 May 2026 Korba. A case of fraud involving unemployed youth under the false promise of jobs has come to light in Korba. Police have arrested two accused who created a WhatsApp group and were extorting money from young people under the guise of providing them with jobs.

In this case, the applicant Mithun Giri had reached the police station and lodged a complaint that he was earlier working in a small finance bank. During this time he got acquainted with the accused Manoj Kumar Aditya. The accused lured him with the promise of a permanent job in KIPL company located at Balco Plant and assured him of a higher salary.
According to the complaint, in the name of getting a job, the accused took a total of 50 thousand rupees in different installments through Phone-Pay and cash. Even after this, the job was not provided and there was constant delay.
The applicant alleged that the accused Manoj Kumar Aditya and Yashwant Kumar Chauhan had created a WhatsApp group named “Good Jobs Better Lives” in which unemployed youth were added and lured with the promise of getting them jobs. It is alleged that both of them collected money from many other youth in the name of providing them jobs.
According to the complaint, Rs 18 thousand were taken from Harish Sahu, Rs 23 thousand from Santosh Das Mahant and Rs 5500 from Rajendra Kumar Sahu. It is alleged that apart from the district, money was also collected from people from other places in a similar manner.
The accused are also alleged to have threatened to kill the victims when they demanded their money back.
During the investigation, police recorded statements from the victims, in which all of them confessed to fraud in the name of a job. During interrogation, both accused confessed to the crime. Police seized two mobile phones used in the crime from the accused.
After gathering sufficient evidence, police arrested both accused and sent them to judicial custody. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
